New ‘Wake Up, Girls!’ Manga Starts In July

You can’t keep some properties down and one of those seems to be Wake Up, Girls!. With a prequel movie and TV series, a short form series spinoff and a couple of manga properties already, a new manga series is on the way for it. The new title, which doesn’t have a formal name beyond Wake Up, Girls! so far, is set to debut with the May 26th issue of Comp Ace. It’ll be handled by Kento Kaga with original creator Green Leaves credited as well.

Two sequel films are coming later this year in the late summer and late fall season, so a companion manga series along the way isn’t unsurprising.

Property concept: Green Leaves Entertainment is a tiny production company on the verge of going out of business in Sendai, the biggest city in Japan’s northeastern Tohoku region. The agency once managed the careers of magicians, photo idols, fortune-tellers, and other entertainers, but its last remaining client finally quit. In danger of having zero talent (literally), the president Tange hatches an idea of producing an idol group. On the brash president’s orders, the dissatisfied manager Matsuda heads out to scout raw talent. Matsuda makes a fateful encounter with a certain girl…
