While a lot of anime fans aren’t willing to believe that the live action Hollywood adaptation of Ghost in the Shell will get made, especially considering the poor efforts made over the years with other potential anime to live action adaptations, this one is looking a lot more like it will. While out doing press on Avengers: Age of Ultron, Scarlett Johansson was asked about the project and when it’s set to begin going into production.
“It’s happening. It will be shooting the beginning of next year, so I think we start production January or February and it’s me and Rupert [Sanders]; and that’s all I know.”
With the success of Lucy previously, it was no surprise that she got the role and that she’ll be invested in making it work since for various reasons Marvel isn’t able to put forward a Black Widow feature film at this time.
The feature is set to debut on April 14th, 2017 and is set to be directed by Rupert Sanders and is being produced by Avi Arad and Steven Paul with Mark Saurian as executive producer.
The film is being produced by DreamWorks and Paramount may invest in it, but it’s listed as Disney as they distribute DreamWorks live action films (but not DreamWorks Animation properties, which is a different company).
Property concept: Major Motoko Kusanagi is a beautiful but deadly cyborg that is squad leader of Section 9-the Japanese government’s clandestine unit assigned to battle terrorism and cyber warfare.
