As it moves close to its ten year anniversary, the 2006 series Tegami Bachi from Hiroyuki Asada is moving in towards its ending. The nineteenth volume of the series was released in Japan over the weekend and it included news in it that the twentieth volume will be the final one for it. The property is currently serialized in Jump Square in Japan, but no final date/chapter has been set for it yet.
The manga has been getting steadily released by Viz Media for the last several years and has the first seventeen in print so far. An anime adaptation back in 2009 and 2010 was simulcast and eventually licensed and released by Sentai Filmworks as monolingual DVD releases.
Plot concept: An artificial sun illuminates a single city; communication with the world is made possible by the Letter Bees–couriers who fight monsters known as Gaichuu in order to make deliveries. Lag gains employment at the Bee Hive and learns that the job has become even more lethal. Fortunately, Lag’s been blessed with the ability to see into the memories of others, but when he finds his delivery partner, she’s not what he expected. No matter what, Lag isn’t going to let anything clip his wings!
