Haikyu!! fans are definitely getting an embarrassment of riches lately as the first TV series did well enough to warrant a second season,w hich is coming out later this year, but there’s also that compilation film that’s coming out on July 3rd, 2015. In addition to that, we recently got the news that a second film is in the works and that a stage play is set to debut in Japan this November.

Now, TOHO has dropped the first trailer from the first compilation film which also gives fans a bit of a look at some new story material that may be showing up in it as well. Haikyu!! the Movie: Ending and Beginning will premiere on July 3 while the second film, Haikyu!! the Movie: Winners and Losers, will arrive on September 18th.

The Shonen Jump series has been running since 2012 and has fourteen volumes to its name so far and we had a two season series this past spring and summer. An OAD is also in the works, which means that animation production on the property is still fluid, making it easy to believe that a second full season could hit with more volleyball material in our future. Crunchyroll simulcast the series last year and Sentai Filmworks picked up the home video and additional streaming rights to it.

The series comes from manga creator Haruichi Furudate and is directed by Susumu Mitsunaka (Cuticle Detective Inaba, Bunny Drop) with series composition by Taku Kishimoto (Silver Spoon, Tales from Earthsea), character designs by Takahiro Kishida (BTOOOM!, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) and animation production by Production I.G (Ghost Hound, Kuroko’s Basketball).

Plot concept: Ever since Shoyo saw a short-statured volleyball pro dominate in a National Championship, he’s been determined to become the next big thing in High School Volleyball. Unfortunately, he’s barely played the game. The only time he was able to play in junior high, his team was defeated in their first and only match against a team lead by up-and-coming setter Tobio. Now in high school, Shoyo finally has a chance to join a real team. The catch is: he must learn to play on a team with his old nemesis.
