Its third years against the underclassmen!

What They Say:
“Inheritance”

I want to pitch to that mitt again… A meeting with catcher Kazuya Miyuki changed the 15-year-old Eijun Sawamura’s life. He said goodbye to all his friends and knocked upon the door of Seidou, a prestigious baseball school, intent on testing his own strength. There, he met many proud baseball players who were betting everything on the sport! A classic tale, yet new and fresh. All the emotion and excitement of the popular baseball manga is at last coming to television in the form of an anime!

The team’s down after a disappointing, but ultimately successful, last few games. The pitching hasn’t been as dominating as it was with Tanba around and the offense still can’t find the spark it had with the third years around.

To remedy, the third years request a practice game against the current team. They want the team that’s representing Seidou right now to wake up from whatever slumber they’ve found themselves in. It’s going to be a huge game. The starts they lost from the third years was most of the team. Tanba (P), Yuki (1B), Ryosuke (2B), Masuko (3B), Sakai (LF), and Isashiki (CF). The underclassmen were left with Kazuya (C), Shirasu (RF), and Kuramochi (SS). Filling in the gaps with good players like Furuya (P), Haruichi (2B), and Tojo (CF) helps, but is hardly a stopgap for the power that also left with the 3-4-5 of Isashiki, Yuki, and Masuko.

So at the start of the game, the underclassmen are up to bat first. Kuramochi and Haruichi ground out to shallow infield, showing who the real ace of Seidou is (cough Tanba cough). The third years are up to bat quick after a strikeout and Furuya’s on the mound.

The third years are relentless though. The first batter, a fill in for Kuramochi, flies out but Ryosuke makes Furuya throw about 12 pitches and Isashiki blasts a double to the outfield. Now there’s men on second and third with one out and the old cleanup batter and captain up to bat. Expecting the high fastball, Yuki swings on the first pitch, a splitter. He gets the next splitter to deep center field and brings the third base runner home. The new center fielder, Tojo, throws a heater to the relay man and stops Isashiki at third. Masuko, looking a little porky, flies out to deep outfield, but brings the runner at third in. That’s two hits, one walk, and two earned runs in the first for Furuya.

Kazuya hits a single to lead off the inning and maybe the underclassmen are getting a little momentum.

In Summary:
The difference between the two teams is almost insurmountable. The current team plays much more technically, base in defense and pitching. The former team played much more aggressively, allowing near misses and errors on the table for the other team, but easily making up for it in offense. The outcome of this game will be telling for how far the current Seidou team will go in the tournament, but it’ll also teach them a lot about who they are now.
