We learned back at the end of January that a new Major manga series would be coming in Japan, which was a surprise to a lot of people since the original series ended in a fairly conclusive way for many. That series ran for sixteen years between 1994 and 2010 from Takuya Mitsuda where it produced seventy-eight volumes to its name and over fifty million copies sold. And, of course, a couple hundred anime episodes and a few films.
According to the upcoming issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday, some new details have arrived regarding the return which debuts with the March 11th issue. The new series is being called Major 2nd and looks to deal with the main character’s son:
“Daigo was born as the son of Goro, a father who is too great. What path will Daigo, who is burdened with great expectations, take in baseball?”
Considering the size and scope of the property, we’re not expecting a pickup, though the potential for running with the new series in digital form may be tempting.
Original plot concept: The story of Major follows the life of Goro Honda, from kindergarten to being a professional baseball player, seeking and overcoming tremendous challenges.
