With a TV series produced previously, the light novel series Asobi ni Ikyo!, localized as Cat Planet Cuties, has come to a close. What may surprise most is that the series is set to publish its 20th and final volume on February 25th, 2015. The book series began back in 2003 from Okin Kamino with artwork by Houdeneizou and has done consistently well for the past twelve years. The show spun off a manga series that ran for ten volumes and the anime adaptation was picked up for release by FUNimation several years ago.
Plot concept: The story revolves around Kakazu Kio, an ordinary high school freshman living in Okinawa. A girl with cat ears appears before him during a memorial service for one of his family ancestors. The girl calls herself Elis and claims she is an alien. Before long, fanatical alien worshipers and a mysterious government agency are in hot pursuit of Elis, but Kio’s childhood friend Manami—who wants to follow in her father’s footsteps in the CIA—captures Elis. Kio finds himself having to protect Elis from everyone.
