Nurse Me Hentai Anime DVD Review

7 min read

Nurse Me DVDPatient – and superiors – satisfaction is key to these nurses.

What They Say:
When nurse-in-training Yumi reports for duty, she’s confronted with an erotic lesson plan that leaves nothing to the imagination! Hands-on learning is harder than she ever dreamed, but the staff is behind her all the way. Depraved doctors, naughty nurses, and perverted patients each lend a helping hand to her erotic education. By the time the nursing staff is finished, Yumi will be pushed to the brink of ecstasy…and sanity!

The Review:
Audio:
Working off of the previous release, Nurse Me is a bit unusual the audio department, though it does retain the original stereo mixes found when Anime 18 first release it. The English language adaptation is encoded at 192kbps while the Japanese language version is encoded at 384kbps. You rarely see anything above 256 for even the big name shows that are in stereo, but it’s a welcome thing. The show has a fairly decent stereo mix though like most hentai shows it’s only the music and some of the sound effects that use the stereo channels while the bulk of dialogue is center channel based. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout here and we had no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback of either language track.

Video:
Originally released to video in 2002 and 2003, Nurse Me is presented in its original widescreen letterbox aspect ratio of 1.85:1. This release replicates the previous one from a few years ago in North America with no differences in the encoding. At the time there were few adult releases that were widescreen and even fewer that were anamorphic for awhile. The transfer for this show looks great with lots of very vibrant colors throughout and a wide range of flesh tones that come across very nicely. There’s a general softness to the transfer that gives things a more surreal feel at times and adds to the nature of the show. Interestingly, they seem to have a lot of fun by adding in some “handicam” realism to the camera work by having it shift during some of the sex scenes. It’s a nice change of pace from the usual smooth shots. Cross coloration is just about non-existent and aliasing is extremely minimal. This is a good looking transfer in general and one of the better stylized hentai ones I’ve seen recently.

Packaging:
The packaging for this release works well as it showcases two of the nurses all tied up, standing upright, with their uniforms torn away from them in certain appropriate locations. The big selling point for the show is its character designs and they look fantastic here with lots of good vibrant colors and detailed artwork. You know exactly what you’re getting with this release from the cover. The back cover uses the original front cover artwork of the three nurses together in similar positions with their outfits being opened up to reveal ample cleavage. There are some really nice shots from the show used along the top with the brief summary of the show in between them. The discs features are also clearly listed there. The bottom portion has a very clean breakdown of the technical specs, though they do sort of ring hollow with the aspect ratio as they show it as 4:3, which it is, but it’s a letterboxed show that’s non-anamorphic. No show related inserts were included nor is there a reversible cover.

Menu:
The menu is a static shot of a nurses station for the background while the two lead nurses are in the foreground. The artwork for both of them is simply lusciously drawn and detailed, but the menu just plain feels odd since there isn’t any music to it. The layout is standard material with the usual selections. Access times are nice and fast and the disc played with our language presets without any issue.

Extras:
The only included extra is a brief art gallery video piece showing stills from the show.

Nurse Me, part of the “Xtreme Series” from Anime 18 when it was first released, is another in a long line of nurse and hospital related anime series. After as many shows as there are out there, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of new ways to go with the concept so whenever a new one comes along it’s just a matter of figuring out which angle they’re going to play with.

Nurse Me goes with the idea that some of the higher-ups in the hospital system, such as one Dr. Miura and one of the head nurses, Etsuko, have decided to not only train various nurses to service them when they feel the need but to also take care of a certain number of patients in need, particularly the ones where some form of a malpractice suit may be placed against the hospital. Want that to go away? Get that cute young nurse to give you a blowjob lickety-split. All is forgiven and the hospital is saved thousands in legal fees.

The hard part comes down to getting the nurses to actually go along with it. Some of them are into it and they end up working the others over. The three episodes for this series keeps its focus on a relatively new nurse named Yumi. She’s long desired to be a nurse based on some interaction with one in her younger days and is now aspiring as a trainee to be just that. But her time at this hospital goes horribly awry once she stumbles in on a fellow nurse who was getting it one with a patient only to be nearly raped by another patient who couldn’t control himself over it.

This eventually leads to Yumi being taken to Dr. Miura who reads her the riot act of sorts and insists that she succumbs to his will. Using his medicinal background, he manages to apply something to her skin in select areas that causes her to heat up and unable to restrain herself. With her writhing as much as she is, he’s able to deflower her against her will pretty quickly and uses it to start bending her to his will. With her fairly broken in some ways, the head nurse uses Yumi afterwards to start pleasing a variety of other patients, from giving them blowjobs to masturbating in front of them and going all out. The patients are the usual variety from the attractive young stud to the disturbing.

Disturbing here is the older gentleman who has a series of small metal balls implanted into his penis that’s almost shaped like the big dipper. And they glow in the dark. God help me. I’m finding hentai funnier than regular anime these days with things like this and some of the amusing English “naughty phrases” that get used. Much like corn, twinkies are going off of my list of edible foods.

The animation and design of this show is really neat in general. The letterbox style gives it an interesting feel by itself, but a lot of scenes are tinged with some stained glass style artwork, showcasing scenes from the show with the characters or just general multicolored backdrops. It’s used to give the scene something of a more cultish feel in some ways and it’s effective in taking you out of the scene and making it feel like it’s much more. The character animation is good throughout, though there are a few noticeable shortcuts in some areas, but in general it’s a very good quality production. The character designs are fantastic and these are in general all good looking female characters. The men as usual don’t make out quite as good.

In Summary:
Nurse Me is a title that most definitely earns itself a place in the Xtreme Series line that it was a part of all those years ago. This release of Nurse Me is a high quality title in terms of animation and presentation while the story is somewhat lackluster. There isn’t much in the way of anything new brought to the table with what it does, but I did like the voiceover that was done since it added a bit more comedy to things than there would be otherwise. For good hardcore material, this is definitely one to check out for a variety of reasons, though the enema/scat scene may be a dealbreaker for many people, understandably so..
