‘Taboo-Tattoo’ Manga Getting Anime Adaptation

2 min read

Taboo-TattooThe ninth volume of the series Taboo-Tattoo from Shinjiro has arrived this week in Japan and it contains a wraparound that reveals that the series will be getting an anime adaptation. Not surprisingly, there’s no actual details on it, but for fans of the show it’s definitely something that will make them happy. For North American distributors, it introduces a dicey proposition. With the series at nine volumes, it’s right at the cusp of entering the realm where most won’t look at it to license and bring over due to the length and how series typically drop off and plateau after the first few volumes. With an anime adaptation announced, it’s likely to arrive by the end of the year or possibly next year, which means an additional volume or two and it becomes an even harder sell. The series began in 2009 and is serialized in Comic Alive, which is a Media Factory magazine.

Plot concept: Seigi, a martial arts trained middle schooler, often feels driven to protect the weaker people around him. One day, he defends a homeless man against some punks, and the man gives him a strange tattoo on his palm in return. The tattoo is a secret weapon produced in the arms race between America and the Serinistan Kingdom.

Seigi finds himself in over his head when a powerful girl, using the same secret weapon, violently pursues him in order to retrieve it. His skill at martial arts may not be enough to keep him alive, but will he be able to learn how to trigger the power of his tattoo in time?
