Injustice - Gods Among Us Year Three Issue 15 CoverThe dynamic changes again.

Story: Brian Buccellato
Art: Sergio Fernandez Davila

What They Say:
A revived Wonder Woman doesn’t like the changes she’s seeing in Superman since her departure, leading to a face-off with Sinestro.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Bringing Wonder Woman back into the game again in the previous installment definitely worked well after the two dream episodes that we had which focused on different aspects of her and Superman’s personalities, desires and hopes. Having her wake up to it being Areas of all people that helped, that her mother must have made some sort of deal and then to find that Clark is wearing a Sinestro Corps ring and that he’s actually aligned with him – and that Hal has gone over as well – certainly makes the world feel topsy turvy. So her slugging it out is a kind of natural reaction, though one would hope for a bit of dialogue first. But after all she’s been through, slugging Sinestro and kicking his ass hard must have felt very cathartic.

There are some fun movements through the fight here as we get Diana going at it, Hal trying to soothe things and event Shazam showing up and just being surprised by her being awake and what that means. It’s also fun to see Ares make sure that the others stay out of the way, only to get dressed down by Diana a bit for it – which makes things more complicated for her for the moment. The best though is that we get a narration by Clark as he talks about how he never really slept or dreamed for so much of his life. It’s somber and a very empathetic moment, but it also reveals why he’s so intent on changing the world of now even more so. Experiencing, even briefly, a dream world and realizing what he’s lost is going to reinforce him in his goal of enforcing a peace on the world like the Spectre wants. But what’s really neat is that he’s willing to do it completely himself, which means giving up the ring as Diana asks him so she can know that it’s truly him doing all of this.

Suffice to say, their relationship just got a lot more complicated.

There’s not much in the way of real downtime here, but we get the moment where this group learns from the Spectre where those that were taken from them are and that he can take them to the Tower of Fate, though the Spectre can’t go there himself. That sets the attack in motion that will shake Batman and Constantine’s team, which has been in the background for a bit now. Seeing them before the attack is definitely fun since they know they have a bit of time to deal with things, believing Superman to be in the same deep sleep as Wonder Woman, so when the actual attack hits it’s definitely a surprise even with Doctor Fate providing a momentary heads-up. There’s a lot to like with seeing them both being so much on the reactive side since they do tend to plan and plot in their own different ways.

In Summary:
This installment brings on board Sergio Davila as one of the artists for the series and he largely does hit the right tone for it in keeping things consistent. There are a few areas where it’s a bit wonky and took me out of it – especially with the design of Constantine’s face, but for the most part it continues to be a fairly smooth transition with Brian Buccellato taking over on the art chores and expanding the scope of the art team. This installment continues to shake things up – which seemingly nearly every issue does – and it leaves me looking forward to the next installment as well to see the fallout from it and what tricks may come into play.

  1. Garbage! In one issue not only does Superman waking up totally Overpowers his side but it robs Wonder Woman of her run, neglects the vision the Clairvoyance lady had “The Emperor sleeps”. Superman wakes up too easy, Aries said it took a significant amount of Magic to wake Diana but it was nothing for Superman?! This may be the end of Injustice for me, but I’ll give it one more issue before I drop it!
