Japanese ‘Slayers’ Anime Blu-ray Box Set Canceled

2 min read

SlayersCiting production reasons and using phrasing that indicates that it’ll be some time before any potential future solicitation is made again, it looks like the Bandai Visual Japan plans for the Slayers movie and OVA box set is pretty much dead in the water. Retailers have been updated with this information and solicitations are being removed from the storefronts to reflect that the plan is canceled outright.

The set looked like it was on a fast-track to begin with as it was first revealed back in the middle of November with a planned for February 27th, 2015 priced at 41,040 yen. The set that contains the movies and OVAs was previously released in a DVD box set back in 2006, which had a 520 minute run time for the work as a tenth anniversary celebration. It included the five movies and two OVAs as well as a drama CD that was produced for it. This set was solicited with plans for the five movies and the two OVA series that were released at three episodes per series.

ADV Films previously licensed and released the movies and OVAs while FUNimation currently has the rights to the TV series, the last two seasons of which got upscaled Blu-ray releases. It’s not expected we’ll see the earlier seasons as the masters and materials for that are low quality to begin with and there may not be any film masters left after about twenty years, something that may have now impacted this release as well with misplaced or outright lost reels.

Property concept: In the annals of fantasy there is no mage so feared, no sorcerer so powerful, as the fiery redhead Lina Inverse. And when the exceptionally well-endowed Naga the Serpent accompanies her, the forces of evil will find there’s nowhere to hide!
