This is the beginning of something for Team Try Fighters. What was a routine training camp to the most grueling of training camps became something much more. What could usually get done with a montage and some fanservice material now may be dealt with in a much more serious way. The reintroduction of Nils Nielsen—now Nils Yajima—and Meijin Kawaguchi III—Tatsuya Yuki, former president of the student council—spells something different for Sekai, Yuuma, and Hoshino.

Teamwork is how they’re going to beat any member of the Gunpla Academy, much less a team of three of them. The supposed fighter who took the fight out of Yuuma is back in the picture and has, once again, taken the fight out of Yuuma. Being defeated soundly twice does not spell well for confidence and the other members of Team Try Fighters are only saved by the appearance of Meijin Kawaguchi. The fighter is Saga Adou (played by the fantastic Yoshimasa Hosoya, known to my ears for Sentarou in Kids on the Slope and he has that same fantastic drawl) and, though I don’t think he’s the same guy from before, Yuuma does and that’s all that matters. What matters in the long run is how he deals with this.

Team Try Fighters, hopefully, has to deal with their teamwork. Together, they can stand against an enemy like the Gunpla Academy and prevail. Apart…well, we’ve seen the results of that. They’re not pretty. I’ve been pushing Team Try Fighters to get their teamwork together and I hope they finally listen.

In Summary:
I always worry about training episodes, but Gundam Build Fighters Try manages to make me invested in one. It starts simply enough with the promise of a battle, but breaks any confidence Team Try Fighters might have had by this point in the most unexpected of ways. The beach episode was a nice diversion, but this is where Gundam Build Fighters excels.
