With principal photography set to begin in April 2015 for the May 27th, 2016 release, things are going to pick up a lot in the coming months for X-Men: Apocalypse. The feature is being scripted by Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris and Michael Doughtery with it taking place in 1983, completing the trilogy as it focuses on the origin of mutantkind itself through the title character of Apocalypse.

The casting of the villain has taken a bit of time but that’s now been revealed as Oscar Isaac is taking on the role of Apocalypse, a longstanding and ancient villain in the X-Men mythos. Isaac isn’t all that well known just yet, but he has a leading role in the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens feature which will help him a bit more. He was last seen in Inside Llewyn Davis.

Following up from the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the new feature previously confirmed that the main cast will be back in the form of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult along with Hugh Jackman who is game for at least one more run. The new film is being written by Simon Kinberg with the screenwriters of X-Men 2, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. Filming is set to start in Montreal in April 2015 and that sets are going to be constructed at the end of this year at Mel’s Studio, where the previous film was shot.
