Though it may not be the national treasure it was back in the 80’s, there’s a whole lot of people that grew up on Urusei Yatsura, and for me it was one of those titles that really made me an anime fan during the early 90’s when AnimEigo was releasing the show amid a sea of action OVAs elsewhere. TOHO’s bringing the second film back out in Japan with Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer and have unveiled three new promo spots for it. The second film made for the long running and immensely popular 1980′s series based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi, the film has seen release in North America on VHS, Laserdisc and DVD from Central Park Media. But like all the other parts of this property that have been brought out, the rights have long since expired and it’s out of print. The film was originally released in 1984 from Studio Pierrot with Mamoru Oshii as the director.
TOHO is tentatively looking at a January 21st, 2015 release date for the film on Blu-ray with a price set at 5,076 yen. Not surprisingly, no English language materials are included with this.
Plot concept: Not all is normal in Tomobiki, even by its standards. The students have been preparing feverishly for the first day of the student fair, which is scheduled to go on the next day. However, problems arise when some begin to notice that the next day simply will not come. As the students begin to try to find the reason for the problem, their beliefs about reality and the world of dreams are challenged.
