A sign of family…

What They Say:
“Moulin Rouge”

A newly-installed pool table at the Fairy Tail guild hall has Erza reminiscing about the first time she shot pool… which was also the first time she came across a certain bandit, the quickest draw on the continent.

Alright, so we’re still in filler. This time around, a seemingly dumbest thing ever turns into a kind of sweet story. I liked it, despite how dumb it is. I mean, the setup is a pool table. That’s how Erza and Bisca met and how Bisca eventually joined the guild.

Here’s how it went down: Bisca was pretending she was part of Fairy Tail then Erza found out, beat her up, and said, “STAHP.” That’s basically it.

But it was so sweet. Erza beat Bisca up—in what was a really cool shonen sequence of a clearly inferior opponent not giving in—but it was for good reason. Just as easily as Erza would beat Bisca up, she would hug her in the next moment if she joined Fairy Tail. She was protecting her own when she fought and that’s what Fairy Tail thrives on and why this episode was good while the one prior was not.

This week’s ending is Erza on your favorite dakimakura. Next week? Who knows.

In Summary:
This week’s episode was a nice piece of flashback and I wish they did these kinds of stories for filler more often. It’s a kind of neat characterization that diverts away from whatever story that’s going on and gives us background to the characters not often seen.
