Look at the cute little first years.

What They Say:
“Footsteps to Tomorrow”

I want to pitch to that mitt again… A meeting with catcher Kazuya Miyuki changed the 15-year-old Eijun Sawamura’s life. He said goodbye to all his friends and knocked upon the door of Seidou, a prestigious baseball school, intent on testing his own strength. There, he met many proud baseball players who were betting everything on the sport! A classic tale, yet new and fresh. All the emotion and excitement of the popular baseball manga is at last coming to television in the form of an anime!

We’ve had some focus on a few third years…First base and captain, Tetsuya Yuki; second base, Ryosuke Kominato; third base, Toru Masuko; center field, Jun Isashiki; catcher, Keisuke Miyauchi; and catcher, Yu Chris Takigawa. Everyone but Chris was garbage in their first year. Unlike the wondrous first years Seidou has now in Eijun, Furuya, and Haruichi, these first years could do nothing. Isashiki wanted to be a pitcher but he has no ball control, Masuko put on way too much weight, Ryosuke was a little too cocky, and Yuki had no fielding abilities. How they made it onto Seidou’s team is beyond me, but they did.

They called it a lost year because of how hopeless they were. But with practice, they got as good as they are now. It all began with Yuki, the captain now, and Isashiki’s friendly rivalry. Soon, it became collaborative between the now two-, three-, four-, and five-hole batters. The first years gathered together and got good through their own hard work.

It’s how it works. The first and second years provide the future for the team for the departing third years, the rookies are the future for the retiring players. It’s the same everywhere. What was once a team that might have been in the gutter is now a contender for the Koushien. This is how it’s supposed to work. I would love to have seen that journey.

In Summary:
I loved seeing all the third years back when they were just first years. You got to see how they were molded into the people they are now, especially Tanba, who at that time lacked confidence. To see Tanba pitching now and to see Yuki be a captain is such a great uplifting moment. These guys have been through the ringer. But it’s time to get back to baseball.
