The upcoming winter event series Agent Carter continues to beef up its cast as it nears production as Shea Whigham has boarded the show in the role of SSR Chief Roger Dooley. The character is set to be the man that runs the group that Carter is a part of along with the other agents. The character itself is one with some potential within the framework of the series as it’s a long established one that has some darker history over the years to work with. Whigham has had a number of solid roles in the last few years, from Boardwalk Empire to True Detective but has largely cut his teeth in smaller roles across a slew of films and TV series.

ABC picked up the eight episode run of Agent Carter to serve as a bridge between the second season split of Agents of SHIELD so that both shows will get solid runs without a lot of gaps between them.

The series stars Hayley Atwell and is executive produced by Christopher Markus, Steve McFeely, Tara Butters, Michele Fazekas, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Jeph Loeb

Plot concept: It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life–Steve Rogers.
