Announced as being optioned by Fox back at the end of 2013, things are moving forward for the feature film adaptation of Starlight, a series from Mark Millar and Koran Parlov published by Image Comics. Whitta’s picked up some good work recently, also being involved with writing the standalone Star Wars film that Gareth Edwards is directing, and this will potentially be a good feather in his cap as well. The film has Mark Millar producing it alongside Simon Kinberg, who is involved in a number of films at Fox. Five issues of the six issue series have been released so far.

The property is described by Millar as Flash Gordon meets The Dark Knight Returns. It centers on a space hero who saved the universe 35 years ago but came back to Earth, where no one believed his fantastic stories. He settled down, got married, had kids and got old, but then is called back for one last adventure when his old rocket shows up.
