What They Say:
“Lost and Found Part One”

Prepared to leave after a short, less-than-successful stint as one of Kennedy’s Slayers for hire at Deepscan, Faith is easily persuaded to stay when she finds out that her next mission concerns the missing Riley Finn—a guy with whom she has a past. Meanwhile, in London’s Magic Town, Angel is doing his best to aid the people transformed by the magical virus he helped cause…

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
This was a GREAT issue for Faith. Like, fantastic.

We know she has trust issues and even when she does trust someone, it’s hard for her to open up. The few times she has have meant something. She didn’t open up in the issue, but she’s inching ever closer. When the leader gets in her face and almost demands an explanation, she tenses up. When one of her own comes as a friend, she says some words.

To the leader, and I LOVE this line, she says, “I just want to look him in the eye and see what I get back.” Faith’s referring to Riley here and her transgression is screwing him in Buffy’s body. To Mai, she gives the short version; Faith did just “enough to do something bad to him.” In her mind, his face while she’s in Buffy’s body is running through her head. Perhaps her biggest regret.

Faith’s redemption story gets a kick start here just trying to get Riley and his wife Samantha back. It’s the least she could do, after all. But if Angel’s any indication—and if Faith actually does save Riley and Samantha—she isn’t going to feel satisfied. In her head, it’s going to be another good deed on the pile of them. The bad deed is still going to eat at her from the inside.

Slayers don’t last forever.

This issue was Angel-light and I’m completely fine with that. What little content we did get with him solidified his parallel with Faith’s story. He doesn’t trust either and those he keeps close he only does out of necessity. When a certain rat comes back, he’s less than pleased. He’s even less pleased at her motive. All in all, I miss Lorne and Gunn and Fred and Cordelia and their interactions with each other. Angel works, but he works off of other people the best. They tell him not to beat himself up, he does anyway, they say he’s a good guy, he says he hasn’t been. Good times.

In Summary:
The ending of the issue wasn’t that unexpected and I’m glad they’re moving in this direction. More than saving Riley, this will help Faith recover from anything bad she’s done. Remember, she felt the best when leading a group of Slayers get through the fact that they have powers. If she takes up that mantle again, it can be huge for her character.
