Welcome back to Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of the wonderful and often wacky world of a galaxy far, far away.
Golden Oldies. While that term may make some people think of the original Star Wars Trilogy, I’m old enough that I immediately flash to poodle skirts and sock hops. No, I wasn’t alive in the 50s, but I listened to plenty of the songs on the oldies station while growing up in the 70s!
In the still of the night
I held you
Held you tight
‘Cause I love
Love you so
Promise I’ll never
Let you go

Catchy, right? Or is it just me? I can’t picture Han or Leia singing this to one another, but I bet Anakin and Padme would!
Here’s another ear worm for you… though I sincerely apologize for getting “Ee-e-e-oh-mum-a-weh, Ee-e-e-oh-mum-a-weh” stuck in your head for the day. The Emperor made me do it.
Not only were the songs of the 50s something that could get stuck in your head, but the movies promised a good time for all. What would happen if my favorite movie, Empire Strikes Back, was shown as a 50s 3D thriller? Check out this trailer “Premake” to find out…
How about a different 50s style opening? This one was created for an art school project in the style of Saul Bass. I love the simplified iconic designs and the ragtime piano style Cantina music.
Many artists have attempted to mimic the same style in creating Star Wars posters. This one, by DeviantArt Malakh788, is probably my favorite.

I couldn’t find a place to buy a poodle skirt inspired by Star Wars, though I know I’ve seen some in the past. This one, shown at the site Fashionably Geek, was from 2012. Unfortunately, it isn’t currently being sold. So if you want to deck yourself out for an intergalactic sock hop, you’ll have to make your own.
You can, however, buy a 50s style headwrap from SpellBound Bows on Etsy! I absolutely love this fabric.
“Ee-e-e-oh-mum-a-weh, Ee-e-e-oh-mum-a-weh”…. Until next week – may the Force be with you
