Fans of Hunter X Hunter have been living with a bit of fear in recent months and those fears are now being realized. With the current Election arc moving right along, there’s not much in the way of original manga material beyond that due to various hiatuses over the years of its original creator. What would the production end up doing? With 142 episodes broadcast and simulcast so far and a couple of movies as well as the manga getting moving again, it’s like a golden age for fans of the property.

Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your point of view, it looks like the series will be wrapping up with episode 148 in a few weeks, as revealed by voice actress Megumi Han, who plays Gon in the series. Rather than go down the road of anime original episodes, they’ve opted to bring things to a close, though there’s always a chance of it resurfacing again after more of the manga is dealt with. The last few years has been a very positive thing for the property with its reception, especially overseas, that has catapulted the show to a run of this length when very few shows manage it anymore. That it was for a property that already had almost a hundred episodes produced with the TV series that started in 1999 along with a number of OVAs as well makes it all the more impressive.

The series recently started expanding as well with Netflix in the US streaming the first 100 episodes of it in its original language with English and Spanish subtitles, bringing in new fans that could binge hard and heavy on the shonen series.

Suffice to say, Tuesday’s will be a lot quieter going into the fall season.
