‘Grave Of The Fireflies’ Gets New Australian Anime Release

1 min read

Grave of the FirefliesWhile Australian anime fans and film fans have had a chance to see and purchase Grave of the Fireflies before, it’s been out of print for awhile. Madman Entertainment is bringing it back this November though and they’ll also be bringing it out on Blu-ray for the first time. The film is one that continues to surface in various regions every few years as it’s a work that many feel is very important in keeping available and exposing to new audiences as often as possible. The film last saw North American release in November 2012 when Sentai Filmworks brought out a remastered edition of it on DVD and Blu-ray.

Plot concept: In the aftermath of a World War II bombing, two orphaned children struggle to survive in the Japanese countryside. To Seita and his four-year-old sister, the helplessness and indifference of their countrymen is even more painful than the enemy raids. Through desperation, hunger and grief, these children’s lives are as heartbreakingly fragile as their spirit and love is inspiring.
