While a lot of focus tends to be on more recent series from this current season or the one prior, FUNimation has dug back a little bit for a slightly older title with the fall 2013 series Unbreakable Machine Doll. They previously simulcast the show and have been watching its numbers across multiple distribution platforms and have finally bit for the home video release. No firm dates or details are set yet, but it’ll be a 2015 release when all is said and done.
Based on the 2010 manga series Kikou Shoujo wa Kizutsukanai, the original work has five volumes to its name so far, created by Reiji Katou and Hakaru Takagi, and is still ongoing in its release.
Plot Concept: During the early 20th century, along with technological advancements, scientists were able to develop sophisticated magic. The combination of science and sorcery was Makinot, circuits made from spells that were put into objects to bring them to life and even gain a personality. It was developed as a military weapon and has now spread throughout the world.
Akabane Raishin is now attending the Royal Academy to become the best in the world. Accompanied by the lovely teenage girl Yaya, who is actually Raishin’s puppet weapon, he plans on rocketing to the top of the class. However, his test scores come nearly dead last although his combat skills and determination are second to none. Raishin has to compete with the deadliest of classmates if he wants to come out as the king.
Surprising but I did like this series a lot as it simulcasted along with Strike the Blood. Glad it got home video rights.
