When Sentai Filmworks picked up the rights to Rail Wars earlier this season, they noted that there would be additional digital distribution for the series. That’s now come to surface as through their partnership with The Anime Network, the series has now made its debut on Hulu where there’s a strong and growing anime presence. The first episode has gone live with new episodes to follow weekly and those with a Hulu Plus subscription can watch this show on their TV and mobile devices.
Based on the light novels by Takumi Toyoday’s Rail Wars! Japanese Nation Railways Security Force, the series has eight volumes released since beginning in 2012. The anime adaptation has set Yoshifumi Sueda to direct the series based on scripts by Masashi Suzuki at animation studio Passione. Makoto Uno will be handling the character designs but also serving as chief storyboard director. This is in conjunction with Sayaka Iso who is handling sub-character design.
Plot concept: In a parallel world where Japan hasn’t privatized its railways, Naoto dreams of being a train conductor for the Japanese National Railways. He luckily manages to snag a job as a trainee for the Railways Security Force. However, Naoto’s expectations are quickly derailed when he finds that he has trouble telling who’s crazier- his coworkers or the criminals he’s supposed to catch! But when RJ, a sinister group, appears to seize control of the JNR, it’s up to him to get things back on track.
