With word that the dub was being worked on recently by Studio Ghibli, the cast for the feature that GKIDS will be releasing in North America has been revealed. With the feature being produced by the same team that has done other Ghibli films with Kennedy/Marshall executive producing, it’s been revealed that Chloe Grace Moretz will be playing the title character in the film. Other actors included, but not listed what roles they’re involved in, are James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Darren Criss, Lucy Liu, Beau Bridges, James Marsden, Oliver Platt and Dean Cain.
The film came from Isao Takahato and while there were many reports of struggles to get it made through the animation process, the end result was a decidedly beautiful film that fits within Takahata’s style.
GKIDS announced the acquisition of the feature for North American distribution back in March 2014. The company previously released From Up on Poppy Hill and other Studio Ghibli films as well as Takahata’s Grave of the Fireflies which they worked with Sentai Filmworks with.
Plot concept: The story follows an old man who makes a living by selling bamboo. One day, he finds a princess in a bamboo. The princess is only the size of a finger. Her name is Kaguya.
