Gus Van Sant Headed For ‘Death Note’ Adaptation

2 min read

Death NoteWhile its big time has come and gone when it comes to the manga and the Japanese live action films as well as the anime, Death Note is still kicking around in Hollywood. Shane Black was attached to it for awhile, but with him being pulled into a few other big dream projects these days, it’s no surprise to see someone else’s name attached. The latest nod comes that Gus Van Sant is being slated to adapt the film, which if true means they’ll likely eject the script that Black and others worked on so Van Sant can put his trademark style on it. The film is bring produced by Vertigo Entertainment with Witten Pictures and Lin Pictures, who have seen a good infusion this year with their success in producing The LEGO Movie.

Viz Media has released the manga and anime in North America.

Original concept: Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects – and he’s bored out of his mind. That changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. Will Light’s noble goal succeed, or will the Death Note turn him into the very thing he fights against.
