Sentai Filmworks Talks Limited Edition Anime Releases

3 min read

Beyond The BoundaryWhile there was little in the way of actual details, Sentai Filmworks did talk a bit at their Anime Expo panel this weekend about their upcoming limited/collector’s edition releases. The company has not doing anything big since debuting several years ago, opting instead to focus on just bringing out the shows without any real bells and whistles and delivering the content that the fans wanted. We’ve seen the ups and downs with dubs and formats, but at the end of the day with what they’re bringing out, you can see them bringing the best they can at the time and being cautious with what they do so as to not have any big losses.

So far, we know of two releases coming later this year that break this mold a bit. We’re guessing both are going to land in December, or possibly one in November. When talking about Beyond the Boundary, they said that the release will be a “super limited deluxe edition” with lots of extras and more. That basically makes it a given that it’s a dub and a Blu-ray, but we also suspect it might be a DVD/BD combo as well.

Partially because this was said about another series recently whith Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions. Originally solicited as a subtitled-only DVD and Blu-ray, the fan reaction caused them to cancel the Blu-ray and solicit just the subtitled DVD. They announced that they would be releasing a special edition version later in the year that would be bilingual and be a DVD/BD combo. We heard over the weekend that, again with no details as to what’s included, that there will be a lot of extras with it and it will be a limited numbered edition as well.

So a pair of releases to keep an eye on to see what Sentai Filmworks’ first special edition releases will be like and for them to gauge fan reaction to them to see if they’re worth pursuing again.

Beyond the Boundary: “There is a girl who is the last surviving member of a ‘certain clan’ and a ‘half-youmu’ boy who shouldn’t exist… This is their story.

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions: I, Ex-Middle Two Syndrome sufferer (“Chuunibyou”) AKA Yota Togashi and current MTS sufferer Rikka Takanashi, have happily exchanged the vows of truth (we’re going out), and I am enjoying life IRL to the fullest… Or at least, I should be. Yes, I really should be. If it wasn’t for the game-changing appearance of my best friend from my previous middle school, super powerful MTS sufferer Sophia Ring SP Saturn VII AKA Satone Shichimiya! What in the world should I do now?! And thus, the battle of The Devil VS The Evil Eye begins! less
