The premiere date on Disney XD has been set for July 7th, 2014 and that has Johnny Yong Bosch revealing his participation in the Doraemon anime dub. He’s announced that he’s taking on the role of Nobita in the show and talked a bit about the project:

“I’m excited about it! Don’t worry about Disney doing this one. EVERYTHING went through both Disney and Japan before final decisions were made. Also, nothing drastic was changed, Doraemon doesn’t suddenly like Pizza or McNuggets. Things like putting clothes on naked boys or girls happened. The story is the same and so are all the great characters. I LOVE this show, thanks so much for the support!” He wrote on Facebook.

With what appears to be Mona Marshall taking on the lead character, we get a bit of the basic premise here ahead of its summer 2014 run. The plan is for the show to be broadcast five times a week targeted at the expected elementary school student age group. Not surprising is that it will be pretty well localized and modified according to Nikkei. Twenty-six episodes are planned for this run with more to follow if it meets their expectations. Disney XD is continually growing content to expand its reach in both animation and live action.

The property is based off of the manga by Fujiko Fujio that began back in 1969. It’s had multiple animation adaptations with TV series, specials and theatrical features, including the first 3DCG one due out later this year.

Plot concept: Nobi Nobita is a 4th-grade boy in Tokyo. One day, a round, blue cat-style robot (minus ears) pops up in his desk drawer. Nobita’s great-great-grandson (or something) lives in the 22nd Century, but thanks to Nobita’s mistakes, the entire family is living in poverty. To rectify this, Nobita’s descendent is sent Doraemon back to the past, to help prevent Nobita from making mistakes. Of course this is a difficult task since Nobita is the weakest and least intelligent child in his class. Doraemon does, however, have a 4-dimensional pocket on his front, which contains cool gadgets from the future. With these toys, Doraemon will try to help Nobita. Unfortunately, Nobita also has the bad habit of misusing Doraemon’s gadgets and landing himself in yet more trouble?
