Ben Foster has been set for the World of Warcraft movie for a bit and with that film progressing right along for its early 2016 date, he’s taken a bit of time to talk about his character. And he talks about it in a way that gives us more than we’ve known about the feature since it was announced.

“The character in Warcraft that I play is named Medivh. He’s a mage, which is essentially a sorcerer. He came up in a time protecting an area, and the way he protected this area was through magic. As peace returned to this land he took a break. He hung up his staff, so to speak, or let his guns get dusty. We meet him as his friends are returning asking for his help in a battle.”

Additionally, he talks a bit about director Duncan Jones approach to the film:

“What’s exciting about Duncan Jones’ take on this video game is that it shows both sides of the war. It shows both sides of a conflict, which is exciting to me. It’s not just a video game turned into a movie. It’s asking, hopefully, an important question of, where do we limit our compassion for what we consider to be the bad guys?”

The plot of the film is supposedly based on The Last Guardian novel, but that has not been fully confirmed at this point in time, and it could just be using it as a launch basis for things.

“The Guardians of Tirisfal: a line of champions imbued with godlike powers, each one through the ages charged with fighting a lonely secret war against the Burning Legion. Medivh was fated from birth to become the greatest and most powerful of this noble order. But from the beginning a darkness tainted his soul, corrupting his innocence and turning to evil the powers that should have fought for good. Torn by two destinies, Medivh’s struggle against the malice within him became one with the fate of Azeroth itself…and changed the world forever.”

Set for release on March 11th, 2016 as directed by Duncan Jones, the film stars Ben Foster Paula Patton, Travis Fimmel, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Rob Kazinsky, Daniel Wu, and Clancy Brown.
