Set for broadcast this summer, the anime adaptation of Barakamon has added a few new actors to the mix this week while also providing a new promotional video and a number of character images. The cast as a whole has been fleshed out with:

  • Daisuke Ono as Seishu Handa
  • Junichi Suwabe as Takao Kawafuji
  • Yuuki Kaji as Kosuke Kanzaki
  • Suzuko Hara as Naru Kotoishi
  • Hiroshi Kido as Koki Uchiyama
  • Miwa Yamamura as Nozomi Furuki
  • Tamako Arai as Rumi Ohkubo
  • Hina as Rina Endou
  • Kenta as Seiya Hirata
  • Akihiko Arai as Megumi Han
  • Village Chief as Tanuki Sugino
  • Vice Principal as Fumihiko Tachiki

Kinema Citrus will be handling the animation for the production. Masaki Tachibana is directing the series based on the scripts by Pierre Sugiura with character designs by Majiro.

The manga series began in 2009 by Satsuki Yoshino and released its eighth installment last fall in compiled form. Yen Press picked up the series for distribution here earlier this year as well. Satsuki Yoshino has had a few other series running prior to this one with a handful of anthology books and short stories as well as the five volume release of Princess of Mana.

Plot concept: As a punishment for punching a famous Calligrapher, young handsome Calligrapher Handa Seishu is exiled on a small island. As someone who has never lived outside of a city, Handa has to adapt to his new wacky neighbors, like people traveling on a tractor, unwanted visitors who never use the front door, annoying kids using his home as a playground, etc. Can this city guy handle all the crazy hardships?
