‘Space Battleship Yamato 2199’ Anime Feature Gets Titled

Starblazers 2199With a good number of folks present from the production of the new Space Battleship Yamato 2199 anime feature on hand, the December 6th, 2014 film was given a title of Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune, aka Star-Voyaging Ark. As part of the 40th anniversary unveiling in Tokyo this week, it was also announced that chief director Yutaka Izubuchi would be coming back to the production that will be animated by Xebec. The film will be coming after the October 11th, 2014 debut of the compilation film Voyage of Remembrance that takes the seven part release that came out previously and narrows it down to this form. The new film when it lands in December will be getting a full national theatrical release as opposed to a limited set of theaters. The compilation film will be limited to event screenings.

Property Premise: The year is 2199. Mother Earth is on the verge of breathing her last. Earth has been rendered a dead world by meteor bombs launched by Gamilas, a mysterious interstellar state. The time left to humanity, which has fled into underground cities, is a mere year.

Mankind’s final hope is the Yamato, which rests off of Kyushu’s Cape Bonomisaki – the Space Battleship Yamato! Believing in a message of salvation sent from the distant depths of the galaxy, the Yamato now sets sail with a young crew under the command of Captain Okita!
