Len Wiseman Boarding ‘Swamp Thing’ Pilot?

2 min read

The launch of the DC Universe streaming service is still some time off and some of its shows won’t hit until next year but pre-production is moving forward for a number of things, including the live-action Swamp Thing series that has gotten a script-to-series order. With James Wan unable to step in and direct the pilot for it as was originally planned for, it looks like Len Wiseman is coming on board to do that. Wiseman has a solid footing in the genre world with films like Underworld and Total Recall but he’s also dealt with several pilots over the years, including the recent Hawaii Five-0 and an episode of The Gifted. He also did the pilot for Lucifer and exec produces a number of genre shows.

The project has Mark Verheiden writing it with Gary Dauberman and both will serve as executive producers as well.

The production for this comes from the Atomic Monster folks, which is James Wan’s company, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

If the scripts hit right, this will debut in 2019 on the service after the rollout of the Titans series and the Young Justice: Outsiders animated series as well as the R-rated Harley Quinn animated show.

Plot Concept: Swamp Thing centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
