What They Say
Cornered among the slabs of the Ancient Rock, Helmina comes face-to-face with Dust, head of the West District. With Jack Frost kept busy elsewhere, fighting the West’s vicious pack of warriors, Helmina is forced to test the strength of her powers against the mighty lycanthrope. Alliances will shift and new powers will rise in the battle for dominance and the mirror image!!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
The Tailor continues to be nearly omnipotent in this world, at least as long as Solomon stays locked up. The Tailor finally pushes Jack the Ripper to the point of accepting the Devils Thread so he is an equal match with Jack Frost and his Devils Thread. Considering both weapons have the same power but different users, it will be intriguing to see how their fighting styles differ. Jack Frost is a ‘rip everyone to shreds’ close combat fighter while Jack the Ripper prefers long-distance attacks and explosives. Their face-off will have to wait as Helmina must turn her focus to battling Dust, leader of the West District, one-on-one.

Readers finally learn why Helmina is called the Witch of the North. Not only does she have magical abilities, but as long as she is touching the Ancient Rock, her powers are magnified. But Dust is the leader of all werewolves and nearly immortal, so how can Helmina hope to keep him at bay, much less destroy him?

It seems the Tailor has successfully manipulated Jack the Ripper into creating the next Mirror Image, and probably the most powerful Mirror Image ever. So has this been Tailor’s goal all along? If so, what is his ultimate goal? Surely it is more than just ruling over Amityville, he is already strong enough to do that if he wanted. Perhaps he thinks to use the new Mirror Image against the eventual return of Solomon, or to destroy Amityville forever?

It is funny, but as much as I enjoyed finally learning the truths behind some of the pivotal mysteries in this series, it also created a few more questions. I have to admit, I am beginning to like this series more, but it took a lot of volumes to get here.

In Summary
This whole volume is one battle laid over the top of the next with nary a breather in-between!

This volume finally answers a lot of questions. What is Helmina’s power and why does Jack Frost follow her? Who was Noh-A’s real dad and did Jack Frost kill him? How are Helmina and Solomon related to each other? Lots of questions finally answered as this very long flashback arc comes to a close and brings the reader right back to the current time frame on the very last few pages; leaving us with one heck of a cliffhanger as Solomon finally breaches his prison and reenters Amityville!!
