Star Wars Thursday: Beautiful Music Edition

2 min read

Welcome back to Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of the wonderful and often wacky world of a galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars Thursday inspirations come from everywhere. Sometimes it’s a holiday. Sometimes it’s a bit of news. Sometimes it’s a movie or a book or a character. Today, I was inspired by my son’s recent honors orchestra concert. While they didn’t play any Star Wars music (maybe I can make a special request for next year?), the important part music plays in our lives inspired today’s theme.

I still shiver when I hear the Star Wars theme music begin to play. The Imperial March runs through my head when I see villains on screen. Leia’s Theme makes me smile and soothes edgy nerves.

What I didn’t fully realize was that the themes themselves, how they built throughout the films and connected with the development of the characters, is often considered to be groundbreaking in modern film. I even found an academic paper online discussing how Williams started this trend.

If you end up with Star Wars themes stuck in your head, or your day can be made by hearing someone hum the Imperial March at work, then I’ve found some things today that will make you smile.

Even if you don’t play guitar already, perhaps this Star Wars guitar strap will make you reconsider? You can even make a Sith smile if you play the Cantina Band song with R2 holding up your instrument. This comes from the Etsy shop of RevGuitarStraps.

Would you prefer a more sedate theme? Or a more traditional instrument? This duo does an amazing rendition of the Force theme with violin and piano. Pick up your own copy of the score for violin at MusicNotes.Com!

If, like me, you haven’t played an instrument in years, or if you aren’t musically inclined, there are many ways to celebrate the amazing sounds of Star Wars by decorating your house. Naturally, you can find anything on Etsy.

First up is a print of “Binary Sunset” with the image of Luke Skywalker superimposed on top. This comes from the Etsy shop of bluthbananas.

This next one is so much fun that I almost decided not to share. Maybe I want to keep it all for myself, okay? Take an old vinyl recording of Star Wars performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, sculpt it into the best characters in the galaxy, and then repurpose it as a lighted clock? Amazing! Snap it up from the Etsy shop of ReSpinIt.

Does the music of Star Wars brighten your day? Which theme makes you smile?

Until next week – may the Force be with you!
