Syfy Greenlights ‘Asencsion’ Space Based Series As Network Refocuses

SyfySyfy is starting to give off the appearance at least of trying to get back to its roots, which is coming from the newly installed head of original programming, EVP Bill McGoldrick. The network moved away from science fiction material to a good degree a few years ago as it seemed to go for schlock, wrestling and a lot of unforgettable material. But now it’s moving forward with a number of projects as there are some four hour miniseries in the works. The first one to get approved under McGoldrick is Ascension, a six hour miniseries that’s set to debut in the fourth quater of 2014. The show is written and exec produced by Philip Levens of Smallville fame and will be prouced in Montral by Sea to Sky Studios and Blumhouse Productions.

Plot conceptAscensionis set onboard starship Ascension. In 1963, the U.S. government launched a covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the Ascension to populate a new world. Nearly 50 years into the journey, as they approach the point of no return, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission.
