The official Sailor Moon site site in Japan apparently put some things up early regarding the new series that wasn’t supposed to go live, which has given fans an insight into how the summer 2014 series is going to unfold. With a piece of key art and production information that has since been removed along with a countdown counter that wasn’t in motion yet, there’s definitely some good material to gnaw on, including the synopsis of the series as translated by ANN.
The series is set to be directed by Munehisa Sakai at Toei Animation with Yuji Kobayashi doing the scripts. Yuki Sako joined the team as the character designer, whose recent works include Majestic Prince. Yasuharu Takanashi is serving as the composer, having worked on some big franchise including Fairy Tail and Precure. Art direction is being done by Takashi Kurahashi and Yumi Hosaka, both of which worked on Gatchaman Crowds and Mononoke. The soundtrack is set to be produced by King Records, which means we should be getting plenty of clips and samples of everything once they start to the marketing side as they’re very involved on that front. Momoiro Clover Z is performing the theme song.
Plot concept: Usagi Tsukino is a second-year middle school girl who is a little clumsy and a crybaby, but she is full of energy. One day, she meets Luna, a black cat with a crescent moon on her forehead, and she transforms into Sailor Moon, a sailor-uniformed pretty guardian of love and justice! As a chosen guardian of justice, Usagi seems to have a mission to find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other guardians and to protect the princess.
Meanwhile, the queen of the Dark Kingdom, Queen Beryl, also sends minions to the town where Usagi lives to obtain the Illusionary Silver Crystal, which has immense power. This causes strange events to unfold….
Can Sailor Moon really find the Illusionary Silver Crystal with the other Sailor guardians, and protect the princess…!?
When will we get this in the US? Will it be subbed or dubbed or both? My daughter loves watching the uploads on YouTube (until the person loses their account lol), and she isn’t a fast reader. It’s irritating to keep pausing the subbed versions.
It will, of course, come to the US the same time as Japan subbed through a legal streaming site like Daisuki as previously announced.
And this new Sailor Moon will definitely be dubbed, which I hope will be Funimation, who will dub it hopefully with the same 90s cast. The whole process takes about…9 months from the last episode in Japan on TV to the first DVD/Blu-ray released in NA with a dub.
So, unfortunately, your daughter will have to watch sub only.
Thank you for the information! It would be great if they used the same voice cast. She can be patient if she has to wait for the dubbed. 🙂
