The show fans love to hate that had huge shoes to try and fill as the first real post-Macross property, Macross II: Lovers Again is now scheduled to get a Blu-ray box set in Japan this year. The set, which will bring all six episodes of the OVA series out, is scheduled for a July 25th, 2014 release which will be priced at the quite affordable by Japanese standards 14,990 yen. The release will have some materials coming along with it as we’re getting a 100 page booklet planned, the clean opening and closing and a new box with artwork to hold the whole thing. The release is being remastered with a new negative scan of the original source materials to give it a truly high quality version. The release is set to clock in at 155 minutes and is listed as being only in Japanese.

The show was one of the early properties that got a relatively quick release in North America after it’s 1992 debut in Japan as it was picked up by US Renditions with Manga Entertainment making sure it’s still available in movie form for VOD viewing online.

Plot concept: A.D. 2089 – 80 years have passed since Space War I changed the lives of both human and Zentraedi races. Both races are at peace on Earth when a new alien race called the “Marduk” appear within the Solar System. While covering the first battle between the U.N. Spacy and the Marduk fleet, SNN rookie reporter Hibiki Kanzaki discovers Ishtar, an “Emulator” that enhances the Marduk’s combat abilities through singing. Hibiki brings Ishtar to Earth to teach her the values of life and culture. Together with ace Valkyrie pilot Silvie Gena, Hibiki and Ishtar must find a way to save Earth from total destruction at the hands of the Marduk leader Ingues.
