Discotek Media is doing some updating on a few of their licenses they picked up awhile ago and a big one is Mazinger Z. The series, which ran for 92 episodes starting back in 1972, will get its first volume released on April 29th, 2014. The set is a big one as it will contain the first forty-six episodes with the original Japanese language and English subtitles. The cover artwork definitely paints it in the right kind of colors for the time that should delight any fan of the property. No pricing for the set has been announced yet.
Plot concept: From the island of Bardos in the Aegean Sea comes a new threat to humanity in the form of Doctor Hell and his army of mechanical beasts. However, a new hero stands in his way: Mazinger Z, a giant robot built out of the indestructible metal chogokin and equipped with an arsenal of advanced weaponry. Piloting Mazinger Z is hotheaded teenager Kouji Kabuto, who strives to avenge the death of his grandfather and protect Japan from Doctor Hell’s forces.
