‘Gotham’ TV Series Expands Scope

2 min read

Gotham Batman VillainsThe Television Critics Association has had a lot of interesting bits come up for a number of series that are being pushed through, but one that’s definitely going to catch some eyes and ears is Gotham. Reaction to this has been mixed due to it not including Batman proper in it, but it’s a series that I think has a lot of potential in exploring the criminal mind as well as that of the city and the police in it as the types of crimes intensifies and the strangeness grows. With the series set to put together its writers room next month and a firm belief that it will go to series with creator Bruno Heller on board and the pilot set to be directed by Danny Cannon, Fox’s chairman Kevin Reilly talked a bit about what the show will included.

“The show will track Bruce from a child (around 12 years old) until he puts on a cape (in the finale),” he said. Also on tap are the Riddler, Catwoman, the Penguin. “We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge,” Reilly said. “It is an operatic soap with a larger than life quality.”

This expands it from what we had heard previously in that it was more focused on Gordon, though it’s easy to expect that he’ll be the anchor character that the viewer gets to rally around and experience all of this with. By talking more about the other characters and seeing how they’ll figure in, it’s set to explore more of how Gotham evolves and forces Bruce into putting on the cape and cowl.
