While it was announced as being available for streaming on the Toei Video Online Shop back in October, Toei has now announced that Shonan Bakusozoku will be getting a Blu-ray release in 2014. The show is getting a six volume release, priced at 5250yen each, where it will bring all twelve episodes out two to a disc, which is pretty decent for there considering the episodes are just under an hour. No details are available yet on what to expect in terms of extras or first press editions but the release will be in 1080p 4:# with PCM stereo Japanese language. The first volume debuts on April 11th, 2014.
The twelve episode OVA series from way back in 1997 is something of an amusing work in and of itself, but also because it was an early title AnimEigo brought over as something different from a lot of their other titles, but only released one episode of on VHS. Sadly, the show didn’t generate the sales here that were needed at the time and it’s never come up again. But now you can get a taste of it from the trailer below!
Plot concept: The Shonan Bakusozoku are the toughest riders there are, and they’re only in highschool! But that’s nothing compared to their leader, Yosuke Eguchi. His love of motorcycles is second only to his love of handicrafts!
