While this can stoke some fears among fans that the TV series for Space Brothers may draw to an end sooner rather than later, it’s still great to see that the property is going to get a big picture anime film, which comes after a live action film landed in 2012. The series, which has 86 episodes so far as of this weekend, has been a surprising property that has gone on far longer than most though. Adapted from the manga of the same name by Chuya Koyama, the film will be written by him as well and will be done with the director of the TV series, Ayumu Watanabe. The film is slated for a broad summer 2014 release from Warner Bros. Japan which has some speculating that the TV series will end around the same time – or could get a big boost from the film and go on longer.

Series concept: To follow his brother Hibito to the moon, Mutta will attempt to become an astronaut at the age of 32. Unaware of his own talent, Mutta chases his dreams to get back in front of his younger brother.
