The recent tease by Ben Kingsley that he’s working on something secret for Marvel Studios set off plenty of speculation, but mostly there is the general belief that it’ll be a Marvel On-Shot tied to an upcoming home video release, more than likely something related to the Thor: The Dark World release. He teased it in a way say, “You’re going to have to wait and see.”
While Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce has addressed the rumor, saying: “One thing I know for sure: nobody’s going to be apologizing for the Mandarin twist any time soon,” that won’t actually end the speculation. The rumor he’s pushing back against is one from Latino Review which indicates that the potential One-shot is having the actual Mandarin character exacting a bit of revenge over what happened in the Iron Man 3 film and potentially bringing that character into a fuller role, at least on the side, which can be tweaked and used elsewhere.
It’s unlikely that we’ll hear anything official for quite awhile, but with schedules and other conflicts, it won’t be a surprise to see Kingsley slip this in earlier than Marvel did in creating the Agent Carter one-shot for the Iron Man 3 home video release if this is what they intend to do.
