Star Wars Thursday: DIY Costuming Edition

2 min read

Star Wars Costume 1Welcome back to Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of the wonderful and often wacky world of a galaxy far, far away.

I’m not sure how many international readers we have, but here in America it’s almost time for Halloween. Some people have been planning, building, and creating their masterpiece costume for months now. Some are just now realizing that if they don’t get their plans in motion they (or their children) will be tossing a white sheet over their head and calling it done.

If you are in that “last minute” group, I have a few places you can go for inspiration.

Last year, the official Star Wars Blog shared some ideas for procrastinators. With varying degrees of crafty talent you could be:

A Cardboard Stormtrooper

Cardboard-Stormtrooper

A bathrobe-clad Jedi

Jedi-Bathrobes

“All-Business” Sith

Office-Manager-Vader

Visit the Star Wars Blog post itself for specific supplies and directions for each costume!

If you have a little more sewing “know-how”, you may be able to make your own Jedi Robes with a minimum of effort. The directions are here, at Degraeve.com. It’s well beyond my own meager talents (which include barely being able to replace a button on a shirt).

The Instructables site has an entire section devoted to Star Wars costumes of varying degrees of complexity. There are even directions for making an LED blaster!

No matter what you decide to try, I bet you’ll end up looking better than some of the gems at this comedy site!

Now that you have the perfect idea for your costume, you’ll need to get your rear in gear! Get out there and gather your supplies. But first, take the time to watch a few adorable Star Wars Halloween videos…

I’m betting you’ve seen this one, if you watch television at all. I sometimes miss the best commercials, though, since I DVR almost everything.

Here’s one I hadn’t seen. Don’t let those troopers fool you, they can’t handle scary movies!

I won’t be dressing up in Star Wars attire this year, since my sons and I will be doing a group Doctor Who ensemble. I’d love to see YOUR costume choices! Until next week – may the Force be with you.
