Manga license rescues are pretty rare for a lot of reasons, especially when it comes to longer series, but Viz Media has made a strong pickup this weekend at Japan Expo USA. On the rescue side of their pickups, they grabbed the CMX Manga release of Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne, which was done by Arina Tanemura back from 1997 to 2000 and ran for seven volumes. It’s a short enough series and one that has enough recognition to make it worth grabbing and bringing back out.
On the new size, Viz Media also talked about the new acquisition with the 2011 series by the same creator, Spell of Desire, which is sometimes known as The Witch’s Potion and has the Japanese title of Majo no Biyaku. This comes from Tomu Ohmi, who raised a few eyebrows last week when Viz Media talked about Midnight Secretary.
In addition to the new acquisitions, the company also announced plans to bring back High School Debut in 2014 in omnibus form, going the three-in-one route, for the thirteen volume series that completed in 2010.
Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne: By day, Kusakabe Maron is an ordinary high school girl with more than her share of problems. But by night, she is Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne, the reincarnation of Joan of Arc! Too bad accomplishing this mission puts her into conflict with the authorities, who view her as a mysterious stranger vandalizing works of art.
