KINMOZA Episode #08 Anime Review

KINMOZA Episode 8

What day is today? It’s no one’s birthday. It’s an anniversary. Let’s all have some cake.

What They Say:
Shinobu Omiya is a 15-year old school girl. She may look like a classically Japanese girl with raven black hair and sweet eyes, but when she was a junior high school student, she actually went to stay with a host family in the UK. She misses her time abroad and one day a letter arrives for her by air mail.

The Review: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
It’s the autumn school festival and the class has decided on a combined Japanese/maid café. As Yoko puts it, a true blending of cultures. At school, Karen’s busy with her own class preparing for their play. Everyone else is preparing for their café and things are pretty hectic.

My bad Futurama jokes aside, it is an anniversary for something, but Shinobu can’t remember for what and Alice is trying to remind her of what it is. But when Alice is still pouting about it on the anniversary day, poor Shino kneels before Alice to apologize. As it turns out, it’s the anniversary of Shinobu’s homestay in England, which was obvious enough from the get-go, but cute nonetheless.

When they do go see Karen’s play, a…erm…reversioning of Snow White, it’s not exactly what Aya was expecting. What’s more pressing is the present that Alice wants to give to Shinobu, and poor Shinobu calls it garbage. And yet again, Shinobu makes a little mistake and puts it in her hair. It was a little silly.

In Summary:
Every time I get really frustrated at KINMOZA, it manages to pull out a lightweight episode like this one that you just can’t help but like. It didn’t do any easy jokes and it didn’t beat any jokes into the ground. There were about five or six cutaways from short jokes (each of them was about 30 seconds long, if that). And it really worked. There were times I was laughing out loud, and that hasn’t happened in about three or so episodes. Mercifully, KINMOZA isn’t on my hit list anymore.
