Aiura Episode 3
Aiura Episode 3
Not being warned ahead of time about a pop quiz should be a capital offense.

What They Say:
They don’t always see eye-to-eye, but that just makes these high school girls’ daily lives more fun. “Their lives happen when nothing is happening” in this anime based on the lackadaisical four-panel manga. *This story features high school girls, but there’s not much romance, and comedy has its place. Don’t expect too much extravagance.

The Review:

Starting in high school is never an easy thing since there are so many unknowns, but this year gets off amusing as the girls deal with their new teacher, Yamashita, who throws them a pop quiz asking them to spell her name. Which she can’t even manage to spell right, which says a lot about the teacher from the get go. The show takes an amusing turn though when only one student gets it right, Mei, and her doing so ends up turning her into the class rep. Coming in a close second was Kanaka, though her answer is just hilarious as is the teacher’s reasoning for selecting her. It’s the kind of thing that sets a particular tone for the year right out of the gate and it certainly fits in with Kanaka’s naming capability, having seen her “kong” aspects previously.

In Summary:
Aiura has some fun here as it gets more of the first day of school rolling right along and we see just what kind of teacher they have. It also gives Mei some screen time that showcases what kind of personality she has, and the kind of awkward situation she runs into because of the teacher and her fairly lazy way. But it’s the way Kanaka kind of wins things over without having a lot to say overall, though the post-credits sequence hits all the right notes for it when you get down to these characters. You can’t help but to laugh and smile and really, really want more.
