With the opening episode of Yuyushiki, I didn’t get a series that really jumped out in a huge way for me. But it did introduce me to a trio of girls who certainly have their quirks and a few minor changes to the dynamic that could be a little interesting from time to time. Such as the opening prologue bit with them sitting around at home just talking and having some sweet drinks and they end up getting all goofy and silly in a way that kids of that age actually do. It’s nonsensical and they even admit that they’re being really weird for a minute, but they laugh and have fun with it in a way that those of this age and a bit younger do tend to do. And there’s a real charm to it here with the smiles and silliness.

With the girls having essentially taken over the data processing club, they’ve got their small but really cozy club room now and a place to hang out. And talk about boobs, among other things. The discussions about how they get to be so big, how to handle having them and other things come up, which is cute. And a big grab at Yui’s breasts to get some hands on time that just returns to its attacker in a bad way. This does eventually lead to a comical attack on the teacher that they still call Mom and there’s a desire to grope her to get some real mature hands on experience, but they can’t bring themselves to do it even when it’s given a bit of an okay. Lengthy discussions of breasts is always amusing in some ways when you get them with high school anime girls, and this one definitely has its moments, especially with how the teacher manages them across it.

The second half is a bit lighter and less focused for parts of it as it just deals with the girls and how they interact with each other, but it also gets a bit more of a clear vision with the club itself. Them taking over the club works out well enough and there’s not a lot of oversight for them. But also the reveal that the third computer ended up at the teacher’s home, which is amusing since she makes it clear in her own way that it’s not coming back. The show also advances things a bit as the summer season gets underway and those uniforms come out, which has a bit of cuteness drawn into it as there’s a few good compliments to go around. But also the problems of the season with just how hot it gets and the way that it wears down on Yuzuko more than anyone else, though they’re all feeling the effects of it. Yuzuko is certainly cute here with how she acts and tries to deal with the muggy weather that does her in regularly.

In Summary:
Not surprisingly, Yuyushiki doesn’t break any new or important ground here, but it continues to show the group dynamic well and the simple silliness of their situations. The girls here aren’t weird or unique in terms of some of their interests or anything, like Lucky Star or something, but they’re a little more modern aware when it comes to what they do deal with in terms of computers, videos and other aspects. But even that’s just a very light aspect, one that a lot of shows tend to ignore. The show does bring in a bit of learning in each of the halves with them learning things online and working through it a bit, but it’s a very minimal part overall. This one is heavily focused on breast sizes for a good chunk of it and that admittedly worked better than I expected to, but it doesn’t leave the show with a lot of interesting material.
