In one of those cases where you can be entirely surprise, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is going to get a sequel. The shelved feature which got a late January dumping ground release this year was made for $50 million and made just that much in its North American run. But it made another $151 million overseas, allowing it to cross that $200 million mark and gain a bit more attention. Paramount may have found it underperforming for the US market, but the overall box office returns were healthy enough for a sequel. No word on whether the stars in it, Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner, will return for the sequel but it’s expected that there was some sort of contractual obligation. The film was produced in 2011 with a March 2012 release but got bumped back in order to capitalize on Renner’s potential popularity through The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy.

You can read our review of it here.

Plot concept: Fifteen years after Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) defeated the wicked witch who planned to have them for her dinner, the siblings have come of age as skilled bounty hunters. Hell-bent on retribution, they have dedicated their lives to hunting down and destroying every witch still lurking in the dark forests of their homeland. As the notorious blood moon approaches, the siblings face a great evil — one that could hold the secret to their terrifying past.
