As with all of Project H’s previous titles, this volume is oversized and comes with a colored page in the front. Paper feels good between the fingers, and Japanese sound effects are preserved in the art, with English translations next to them.
Fans of older women (or younger men) will find a great deal to enjoy in this collection, the first from Project H from Youko Ohnami. As the author herself puts it “tsundere older ladies are the best!” Ohnami’s art is nowhere near as polished as some other H artisans, and her characters tend to go off model, or have awkwardly exaggerated anatomy. If you find an uncensored image, the rather extreme kanbotsu on the cover are a good example of this. Instead of going for realism, or idealized portrayals, her characters are exaggerated to highlight the emotions and passions of the scenes. In normal conversations, her women and men are very attractive. In the throes of passion, however, sometimes things can look a little wonky. However, I’m willing to forgive this because Ohnami often manages to hit a perfect sweet spot of erotic exaggeration that enhances the eroticism elegantly. It’s uneven, but she’s capable of great magic at times.
I should also add that there are no horrible white spaces. Bodies are explicitly rendered, with the one or two censor bars that try (and fail) to obscure detail. Purists may be disappointed, but it’s an improvement over titles that lack the detail entirely.
My Good Boy has 5 stories over 11 chapters, with the first three stories lasting 3 chapters each. The first is the eponymous story, about a young servant having to attend to the beautiful heiress to a corporate dynasty. There are light femdom elements here, as the young boy is commanded to lick her master’s feet, among other things. The second story involves a young couple that is torn apart by conflicting work schedules. Because of this, they are unable to maintain a healthy conjugal relationship. The woman, a nurse, is torn up with desire, but when her husband ends up in the hospital, their problems may have found a solution.
The third story, My Beloved Yuka, involves a young boy in love with an older girl who has just been dumped by her boyfriend. He attempts to console her in all ways he can. As might be expected, all three of these stories have a strong romantic monogamous element, and the relationships between the couples evolve. Those looking for some romance in their erotica should be pleased by the emotions on display.
The last two stories are one chapter each. The first involves a young guy who unknowingly asks out a mother of three. He’s intimidated at first, but soon finds the relationship to be just what he was looking for. The last story involves a wife who dresses up as a certain tiger-striped bikini wearing anime character, and ends up exciting her husband beyond all expectation.
In Summary
My Good Boy targets a specific audience, and since I just happen to be in that audience, I enjoyed it a great deal. I can’t help wishing that Ohnami’s art was a bit more consistent, but her talents can be used to great effect, as demonstrated in the fourth story in this collection. I’m also delighted to see a more explicit title from Project H, as many of their earlier titles have far too much censorship for my tastes. More like this, Project H: More explicitness, more Ohnami, and more tsundere older ladies, if you please.
