Questioning Fandom: Do You Like A Big Cast

2 min read

As is the nature of every series, the cast that’s used to tell the tale can be pretty varied. Some shows focus primarily on just two characters with a handful of supporting characters. Others are so large and sprawling that remember who is who can be a major problem. Having just started Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, we’re treated to a show with a very large cast overall that has a couple dozen characters introduced in the first few episodes, as these kinds of shows are wont to do, and it never seems like it comes together where you really remember who is who, at least by name. Sometimes it’s easier to just remember by chest size, especially in a show like this.

Anime offers a wide variety of stories and the casts reflect what they’re trying to do. Do you find yourself gravitating towards small shows? Or do you like the big casts? When it comes to the larger cast shows, do you like it more with how series such as Urusei Yatsura handles it where it happens over time and new characters get their time in the sun, or more like Durarara!! where everything is thrown at you in the first episode or two and then it susses things out?
